1. What are the age requirements to enroll in a driver's education class? (top)
Answer: Students must turn 15 by the last day of class.
2. What are the Illinois' state requirements in order to take driver's education? (top)
Answer: All students under the age of 18 must take a driver's education class in order to get a driver's license in the state of Illinois. The course must consist of 30 hours of Classroom, 6 hours of Behind the Wheel driving and 6 hours of observation. Students must show documentation that they are academically eligible to take a driver education course. The basic requirement usually includes: Showing proof of Jr. High School or High School report card which lists 8 passing grades within the last 2 semesters. Quick note: All students must turn in a "Blue Form" signed by the student's high school or junior high school: * If a student has not completed 2 high school semesters. * If a student is in 8th grade or is a freshmen. * If the high school or junior high school uses a "quarter grading system" * If the high school or junior high school uses "trimesters" * If the high school or junior high school uses "block scheduling" * If the high school or juinor high school does not use "semesters" (The blue form is given out by the classroom instructor on the first day of class. 3. What do we need to bring on the first day of class? (top)
Answer: Black pen, Folder, and first payment.

5. Does the amount have to be paid in full on the first day of class? (top)
Answer: Students do not need to pay the entire amount on the first day of class. Our program is flexible in regards to the course payments. We suggest that students make a small or partial payment on the first day of class & continue to make partial payments throughout the program. The $ 95.00 payment plan: A popular payment plan that we offer is the $ 95.00 payment plan: Students can make a $ 95.00 payment on the first day of class & continue to make $ 95.00 weekly payments on each monday during the program. We accept checks & credit cards (Visa & Mastercard)
6. What happens if a student has to miss a class? (top)
Answer: Students can miss up to 4 days of class; however, a student must attend at least one of the first three days of class. Each time a student misses a session, they must attend a make up class. When a student arrives for a make up class, a "make up packet" will be waiting for them. The make up packet includes all of the items, materials & activities which were covered in class on the day that was missed. Students can attend any class session at any of our locations in order to complete a make up class as long as there is a class in progress. Feel free to check our class schedules or contact our main office to view the classes in session. Quick note: It is not necessary that students attend the same identical class lesson that was missed. The make up class lasts the entire 2 hours.
7. When can students get their permits? How does that work? (top)
Answer: Students are allowed to obtain a permit after the 2nd day of class. The instructor will review the rules of the road & provide all of the necessary information during the first two days of class. * Students will also be instructed to bring other forms of identification to the Driver's License Facility in order to get a permit such as: * Original copy of their Birth Certificate or Passport * Social Security card * A $20.00 check, cash or money order * Application form (The instructor will provide this form to the students in class) * Something with their address on it * Something with their Signature on it
8. Can students get a permit before the class starts? (top)
Answer: Yes, Nortwest Suburban Driving School offers a new option called the pre-registration program. Studens can obtain a driving permit early (before the class session starts). The permit will allow students to begin practicing right away & they can start driving with their parents. There are only 3 requirements: 1. Students must select a class session that is listed on our class schedules & enroll. 2. The class must start in 30 days or less. 3. A $15.00 fee is required to enroll in the pre-registration program.
9. What do the students need to bring to get a permit? Where is the DMV located? (top)

10. How do I schedule the driving lessons? (top)
Answer: Once the students get a permit, they may begin practicing at home & scheduling driving lessons with a behind the wheel instructor. Students can either schedule driving lessons during class with an instructor or they may contact our office by phone. Since we are flexible to all of our student's needs, schedules and requests, students are allowed to pick their driving times, dates and driving partners. If a student does not request a particular driving partner, our program will schedule them with another student from class or a student that lives near their neighborhood.
11. How long do students need to hold a permit before getting a driver's license? (top)
Answer: In order to get an Illinois' driver's license, all students must hold a valid permit for at least 9 months & they must be at least 16 years of age.
12. What are the new laws & requirements for teens regarding the Graduated Driver Licensing System? (top)

13. How many hours do students have to drive with a parent or guardian? (top)
Answer: 50 hours outside of a driver's education program must be documented in order to get a driver's license in the state of Illinois. 10 of the 50 hours must be performed at night. Download a copy of the 50 Hour Log.
14. Will students get High School Credit after they complete the driver's education course? (top)
Answer: Yes, after successful completeion of our driver's education program, students will receive full high school credit at most high schools. This credit can also be used toward high school graduation. Northwest Suburban Driving School will supply a letter of completion which can be submitted to the student's high school guidance office for verification of completion.
15. When should students expect to receive a Letter of Completion? (top)
Answer: After completion of both the classroom phase and the driving portion of our program, students are issued a letter of completion by the Illinois' Office of the Secretary of State. This letter arrives from Springfield & students should expect to receive the letter approximately 1 - 2 weeks after the last driving lesson. The letter of completion can be used as proof of passing a driver's education course & is necessary to obtain a driver's license in the state of Illinois.
16. When can students get a driver's license? (top)
